As an extension of my research, there are 1,022 photos of identified caterpillars on a www.Flickr.com website, which can be accessed by searching "Caterpillars of the Allegheny National Forest".  Or link to site here.
Many of our photos have also been submitted to www.bugguide.net  and are integrated into their regular taxonomic database.  Below are just 12 of these photos.
These caterpillars (and leaf-feeding hymenoptera, sawflies) were identified by distinctive field marks or DNA barcoding.
A former student Arpad Hervanek did excellent quality work on this project.
